Red Canyon of the Shoshone River – Class II-III
Features many waves and rapids. Good flows May to October yet boatable year round. The put-in is private but open to non-commercial travel. Park in signed area and launch from the end of the road. Take out prior to the Belfry (Highway 120) Bridge or extend the run seven miles by taking out before Corbett Bridge ( K-5 ).

Clark’s Fork of the Yellowstone River ( F-2 ) – Class I-VI
Starts on the Beartooth Plateau and punctuated by a deep gorge before spilling onto desert flats. Alpine runs are for experts while the lower prairie portion is perfect for canoeing.

For flatwater adventures, take your pick of high alpine lakes, large reservoirs or smaller ponds close to town.
Island Lake ( G-1 ) – Great day trip or overnight outing if you camp on one of two islands. Portage to Night and Beauty lakes.
Buffalo Bill State Park ( I-6 ) –Buffalo Bill Reservoir offers miles of shoreline and dramatic views of the North Fork and South Fork valleys.
Beck Lake ( O-12 ) – Warmer water temperatures make this lake an excellent escape within city limits.
Yellowstone National Park ( A-5 ) – Yellowstone Lake and Lewis and Shoshone lakes offer first-rate paddling. Camping requires backcountry permits.
